Uros and Taquile Day Trip from Puno

Lake Titicaca is the largest freshwater lake in South America and the highest of the world’s large lakes. Titicaca is one of less than twenty of the ancient lakes on earth and is said to be millions of years old. Lake Titicaca sits 3 810 m above sea level and is situated between Peru and Bolivia. Peruvian part is located in Puno department, in Puno and Huancane provinces. It covers 3 200 square miles (8 300 square km) and extends in a northwest-to-southeast direction for a distance of 120 miles (190 km). It is 50 miles (80 km) across at its widest point. A narrow strait, Tiquina, separates the lake into two bodies of water. On this full day tour, you will be able to cross Lake Titicaca by boat and witness the traditions of the local Uros People, with their houses made of totora reed plants. And also visit the Island of Taquile, where we will witness Andean traditions still conserved by the local people.

Lake Titicaca 1 Day
  • 7:15-7:20 a.m. We will pick you up from your hotel in Puno and board the bus.
  • 7:30-8:00 we will travel by boat to the Island of the Uros.
  • 10:00-11:30 we will travel by motorized boat to the Island of Taquile.
  • 11:45- 12:30 we will have a guided tour of the Island of Taquile.
  • 12:45-2:00 we will have lunch at the home of a local family.
  • 2:15- 3:45 we will return to Puno by motorized boat.
  • 3:45- 3:50 Transfer to your hotel in Puno.
  1. Your pick up from your hotel in Puno will be at 7:15 a.m. and in a short time you will be heading to the port of Lake Titicaca. From there you will take a motorized boat to the first stop, the floating Islands of Uros. Here you will be able to see small communities and families that live on islands made of totora reeds and witness all that the local people make from the Reed, including houses, artwork, and boats. Your guide will tell you all about the lifestyle of the local people and some history. You will then head to the Island of Taquile and begin a walk along a wide trail with impressive views of the lake. Also a visit to some places where a local artwork is made. And then lunch time will be at the home of a local family to enjoy some of the local food.The boat will then take us to the Port of Puno and arrive at about 3:45 p.m. The tour ends with a transfer to your hotel.
