8:10 am. Explore the beautiful Sacred Valley of the Incas, home to several royal estates of Incan emperors. First, you will visit the town of Pisac, famous for its bustling indigenous market and for the beautiful Incan ruins on the hillside overlooking the city. In the market, you will have the opportunity to browse the beautiful handicrafts and Andean garments displayed for sale as well as local fruits, vegetables, and other natural products. While exploring the Pisac ruins above, you will wander about walls and palaces of spectacularly cut stones, while enjoying a stunning view of Pisac and the Sacred Valley below. Following your visit to Pisac, you will stop for lunch (own cost) at a buffet restaurant offering a variety of Peruvian and international food near the town of Urubamba, named after the sacred river (whose upper stretch is called the Vilcanota) that flows through the valley, on its way to Machu Picchu and eventually the Amazon jungle. Next, you will visit the spectacular fortress of Ollantaytambo. These magnificent Incan ruins that cling to the hillside were part of the royal estate of the Incan emperor Pachacuti. Later, during the Incas heroic resistance against the Spaniards, a great battle was fought, during which the Spaniards were repelled by the guerrilla emperor Manco Inca. The small town of Ollantaytambo at its base still has Inca houses, making Ollantaytambo the only Inca city that is still inhabited today. In the late afternoon, you will be taken to your comfortable hotel in the Sacred Valley. (OVERNIGHT IN SACRED VALLEY)
  4. Day 4: MACHU PICCHU TOUR - Back to Cusco

After breakfast at your Sacred Valley hotel, at 7:05 am you will take the Vistadome train to Machu Picchu, the hidden Inca citadel. This hour-and-a-half to two-hour train journey is one of the finest in the world. Much of the path winds along the rushing Vilcanota River and snakes through gorges cut into the bases of massive mountainsides, offering passengers dramatic views of the Andean landscape as the train descends from high altitude plains down through the cloud forest. Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, the town at the base of Machu Picchu, you will be met at the train station and accompanied to the bus station for a 25-minute ride up to the secluded citadel, which is surrounded by a cloud forest inhabited by orchids and hummingbirds. Next, you will meet your expert English-speaking guide for a tour of the most important sites in Machu Picchu, including the Intihuatana (Sun dial stone), the Sun Temple, and the Room of 3 Windows. Discovered in 1911 by an American history professor, Machu Picchu is justifiably ranked as one of the “must see” archaeological sites in the world. Here, royal palaces, temples and astronomical observatories cling to a granite spur some 2,000 feet above the valley floor, affording spectacular views of the cloud-wreathed Andes and the Urubamba River far below. At 6:10pm you will take the Vistadome train back to Ollantaytambo, then by bus Cusco ends 10:30pm. (OVERNIGHT IN CUSCO)
  5. Day 5: Moray and Salt Mines Tour

We will pick you up from your hotel around 8:30 a.m. and head to the farming laboratory in Moray. This beautiful drive is about one hour and 20 minutes. On your drive, you will see the snow-capped peaks of the Andes, lush yellow fields of wheat, and some villages. Finally, you will arrive at the fascinating display of terraces in Moray. Moray boasts three amphitheater-like terraces, made by the Incas. These terraces, which are carved deep into the earth, in the shape of a bowl, were thought to be used to determine the optimal conditions for growing crops. When you are done exploring Moray, you will head about two miles away, to the salt mines of Maras. This village is known as a former salt-producing center and is thought to date back all the way to pre-Incan times. There are over 4,000 salt pools carved into the mountain side, that are filled daily by a stream of water. This spectacular area is perfect for you if you wish to see something different than the ruins. Once you are done with the visit, you will head back to the city Cusco around 2:30pm. (OVERNIGHT IN CUSCO)
  6. Day 6: Rainbow Mountain Hike Full-Day Tour

We will pick you up at 4:30 am from you hotel. After 2-hour drive we are going to stop in the local restaurant to have deserved buffet breakfast around 6:30am, then we will continue 1-hour more to the trailhead we will arrive approximately 9am. Cusco’s weather is usually quite cold, and the trailhead is even colder, so early in the morning. Be sure to bring a warm jacket, scarf, hat, and gloves. After breakfast, we’ll hike about 2-hours uphill to the Rainbow Mountain range. At a slower pace, it could be 2¾ hours, or if you are really fit quick and acclimatized well, some people can do in 1½ hours. The hike up includes some short breaks where the guide will explain some important information about the mountains and the geography of the area. Perhaps you’ll have a chance to catch sight of some of the locals, including llamas and alpacas that frequent this area. The trail itself is quite wide and helpful for those with vertigo or fear of heights. The trek is best during the dry season as the trails are not paved. The trail can be a bit dusty, and in the rainy season, it can be slippery since it may be wet. However, with good waterproof hiking shoes and trekking poles, it will be just fine. Upon your arrival to the top of Rainbow Mountain, around 11:30am, you will have about 1 hour to explore the spectacular views of the surrounding areas - valleys, mountains and to view the highest glacial mountain in Cusco - Ausangate, whose summit is at an elevation of 6,384m / 20,944ft, making it one of the tallest mountains in Peru. After giving you a bit of time to take some treasured photos, your guide will tell you some intriguing facts about this fascinating place - like why the colors?! – and he will also share some detail about the Inkan history. A few last photos of this spectacular mountain and we will begin our descent. Then you will enjoy great buffet lunch, at same restaurant for breakfast. After lunch, it will be another 2½ hour drive to Cusco ends around 5:30 – 6:00 pm. (OVERNIGHT IN CUSCO)
  7. Day 7: Humantay Lake hike  Full-Day Tour

We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 4:30 am and drive 3-hours to the village of Mollepata, located in the lush valley of the Apurimac River. Here we will enjoy breakfast in a local restaurant before we start the trek to Soraypampa. We travel along a photogenic path called the “Camino Real,” as we gain altitude. After reaching the tiny village, where few amenities exist, we continue for another hour and a half, ascending 1,200 feet in just 2 miles up a steep path. After conquering the last hill, we will gaze down on a turquoise lake below, which is surrounded by steep peaks and an impressive glacier. The hike is dominated by Salkantay Peak, one of Peru’s most sacred mountains, towering 20,600 feet with a sheer and snowy face. The equally impressive Humantay Peak, rising 19,412 feet, is also within view. Shamans and other natives will often give blessing when reaching the crystal-clear waters of Humantay Lake. Once we reach the lakeshore, we relax, enjoy a snack, go for a swim (if you are brave!) or give thanks to Pachamama (Mother Earth). When you are ready to hike back down, we will descend to Soraypampa and have lunch while enjoying the breathtaking panoramic views of the snowy peaks. We drive back to Cusco ends 5:30pm. (OVERNIGHT IN CUSCO)
